As I browse the thrifted racks in my local second hand store I always check out the fur coats and think "Wow, could I possibly make a bag out of one of these fabulous vintage fur coats? I make bags from leather coats, why not fur coats?"
Ohhh, I did it, and I really love this bag, girls.
So here's my first effort in thrifted fur. I really don't know what type of fur this is, girls, I only know that it's beautifully soft and silky.
The bag is a nice, large hobo, measuring 16" wide from the widest part in the middle, and tapering up to 9" at the mouth of the bag. It stands 16" furry inches tall, and it's really big enough for anything you'd like to carry.
The black leather strap measures 24" long from side to side and drops the bag at upper waistline level - a perfect hippie drop, as far as I'm concerned.
I was able to use the original vintage lining from the coat as the lining to this bag - it's a dark purple taffeta with little embroidered flowers sprinkled throughout. I've added an inside leather pocket that's great for grabbing cell and keys, and the strong black nickel magnetic snap keeps all your stuff safe.
