The stunning focal stone of this necklace is a simple polished, wintry agate with a gorgeous pattern, possibly part of a geode at one time. The necklace includes chips of Smoky Quartz and creamy Moonstone, small faceted rounds of pure Quartz Crystal, nuggets of polished Green Opal, gorgeous, deep red (dyed) Riverstone beads, and dramatic chunks of rugged Smoky Quartz, with gold plated accents and two beautiful Swarovski Crystal beads at each end. It's a Solstice Celebration!
This combination pleased me so much I decided to add a matching bracelet as well! The price shown includes BOTH pieces.
The necklace is 22 3/4" long, and the focal stone is approximately 1.5" x 2.5" (including bail). The bracelet is 7 1/2" long.
MY PROCESS ...
In creating a necklace, I first select a focal piece, and then choose the various stones to complete it through an instinctive (and fun!) process. After lighting some incense and putting on some music that suits my mood that day (new age, world music, nature sounds, classical or soft jazz), I hold the pendant or focal stone in my hand as I look over ALL of the hundreds of types of stone beads in my collection, and choose several (way more than what will eventually be included - usually 20 or more types) that look and feel "right." Next, I narrow things down by repeating the process among the beads I first selected, and place handfuls of about a dozen different types in the old African Mancala game board I use as my beading palette. I then choose complementary glass seed beads (often used as spacers) and a clasp, and begin beading - entirely by instinct. Often, I will get to a certain point and begin over again, until the necklace that is meant to be reveals itself. Sometimes, I find that a stone I hadn't originally chosen is screaming to be included, and I always honor that. Not all of the stones in the final palette are used, and usually the piece turns out entirely differently than what I had originally envisioned. It is a process that feeds my soul. I am inspired by the colors and textures of the materials I work with, and by my spirit guides (all animals! - see my profile), as well as by the constant presence when I'm beading of my two beloved rescued dogs (O'Keeffe and Teddy) and a giant rescued Maine Coon cat named Sassafras, who rules the roost. All three love to be a part of the process.
ABOUT THE STONES:
GREEN OPAL: Purification; calming; healing; rejuvenating
Opal is known as "The Gem of the Gods," and has always had a mystical significance. It is an inspirational stone of love and hope, which is said to aid in psychic vision, imagination and creativity, and to have the power to open the spiritual centers. Opals contain water, and can amplify and mirror feelings, buried emotions and desires, helping to release inhibitions. Opal is also a very spiritual stone, and can help one be "invisible" in situations where you don't care to be noticed. Opal brings happy dreams. It also eases the process of change. Physically, opal is helpful for eyesight and Parkinson's disease. Green Opal in particular is beneficial for cleansing and rejuvenating, which promotes emotional recovery and aids relationships.
AGATE: Balance, truth, healing
Agate is a grounding stone that helps bring about emotional, physical and intellectual balance. Psychologically, it gently facilitates acceptance of one’s self and builds self-confidence. Intellectually, agate enhances mental function by improving concentration, perception and analytical abilities, and encourages speaking one’s own truth. Emotionally, agate can help one to overcome bitterness and negativity. It heals inner anger, fostering love and the courage to start again. It is useful for any kind of inner trauma, and aids spiritual growth. Agate has been used in treating disorders of the digestive system, eyes and uterus. It is cleansing to the lymphatic system and the pancreas, strengthens blood vessels and heals skin disorders.
QUARTZ CRYSTAL: Clearing; cleansing; healing; magnification of ambient energies; memory enhancement
Quartz Crystal is a highly beneficial stone, amplifying and enhancing the qualities of other stones it is worn with and attuning them even more to your particular energy. Clear Quartz acts as a purifier, creating harmony and helping to balance all stimuli, positive and negative. Unlike most other stones, Clear Quartz can be “programmed” by one’s inner intention to assist in achieving virtually any goal. It is a stone of Light, bringing a heightened spiritual awareness to anyone who wears or carries it. Physically, Clear Quartz stimulates the nervous system and can assist in removing adhesions in the connective tissue.
SMOKY QUARTZ: Grounding; practicality; organization; manifestation of dreams and inspirations
Smoky Quartz has a natural affinity with the earth’s energy that can strengthen one’s connection to nature and the environment. It transforms negative emotions and energy patterns and gently dissolves negative thought forms. It may help balance yin and yang meridians of the body with those of the ethereal body. Smoky Quartz has been used to stimulate creativity in business by strengthening communication, the unification of energies directed toward the same goal, and clearing learning blockages related to the mental and emotional elements. It is healing for the lower torso, as well as the heart and nervous system, and is said to help dissipate congestion in the solar plexus area and relieve disorders of the hands and feet.
MOONSTONE: Calming; protection; love; connection with plants
Moonstone helps to cool, soothe and calm our emotions, and is associated with intuition, sensitivity and the feminine aspect of our nature. It enhances balance and introspection, and possesses reflective lunar energies that relate to new beginnings. It can help one focus on what's needed rather than what's wanted. Moonstone is believed to enhance psychic abilities. A gently protective stone, it is worn as a charm when traveling on or over the water. It can attract love, heal rifts between lovers and ensure restful sleep. As a healing stone, moonstone helps all parts of the lower torso, including digestive, cleansing and reproductive organs. If worn while gardening, it can help your plants and flowers to grow strong and healthy.
RIVERSTONE: Energy, stress relief
Riverstone is known for its regenerative effect on the body and for its ability to relieve anxiety. It is also said to energize the aura, helping you make the changes that lead to greater spiritual experiences.
