Narwhals explore the polar waters of the far north, their long tusks poking up through the water has they dive and resurface amongst the ice floes. Their horn is actually one of their two teeth, that in the males grows straight through the upper lip as a spiralling tusk. The tusk can be up to 3 metres long, in proportion to a body of 4-5 m. They generally travel in groups of 15-20 individuals, but larger pods of over 100 whales can be see at feeding grounds. As they travel through the shifting ice, they run the risk of becoming trapped and falling prey to polar bears or hunters.
