This fold-up art desk is called the Chautauqua Equipment Complete Art Desk and was manufacturered by Lewis E. Meyers & Co., Valparaiso, Indiana. The desk was originally patented in 1885. The desk consists of an adjustable table that can be used as a desk surface. The backside of this surface is a chalkboard. On the very back of the desk unit, is a map of the United States. This unit has a long scroll that helps children learn various life tasks - such as handwriting, technical drawing, nutrition, transportation, sewing, woodworking, etc. The illustrations on the scroll are detailed and easy for a child to follow.
This unit can be used on a table or it can be hung on a wall and used there. The desk unit folds flat for storage when not in use.
This antique industrial art desk is in very good condition. The wood is strong and secure - made to last! The paper scroll turns easily on the rollers. There are parts of the scroll that have been taped long ago. The map on the back of the fold-up desk is in excellent condition, with minimal edge wear. The chalkboard surface is very clean with very minimal scratches.
