This box features the constellation "Orion" using brass pins inlayed into the cherry top. The box itself is made of walnut with cherry miter splines in the corners and bottom. The top also features a large hole halfway drilled through the top where Orion's belt drops in and into the top itself. I can see this constellation clearly from outside the shop door at present. I've always liked it and wanted to somehow incorporate it into one of my designs. This is the second box. The first one was done with different woods and s slightly different handle.
These style boxes have earned the nick name "Dial Boxes" because of the hole and the handle on top. They make great gifts as they are or could make a stunning gift box with something else inside.
Finish is an oil / varnish blend. Very soft and smooth finish.
