This is for a hand crafted mask. It is full sized, meaning that it will fit an average sized adult face, and its title is “"Loid”. The base is papier mache that has been covered in vintage leather. The right eye is a vintage watch case, without the crystal, while the left eye is made from a piece of salvaged metal. A pair of vintage vacuum tubes make a pair of horns, in the forehead. I hand-make each mask base and then individually design and hand-cut each one, and so, they are all unique art pieces. The inside is black.
This piece is 8” (20 cm) wide, 4 1/2” (12 cm) high and around 3” (7 cm) deep. The black ribbon ties are 18” ( 46 cm) long. The "horns" project nearly 2". It is signed and titled on the inside.
It may look fragile, but my masks are quite sturdy, my crafting method means they are more flexible than most Venetian ones, but just as strong. The surface is mostly leather, so is not that fragile and can be worn without a problem. Just keep it away from high levels of moisture.
This form was designed to fit over most styles of eyeglasses since not everyone can wear contacts, even for special events. If you are thinking about wearing the mask please don't hesitate to contact me and I can check the fit for your personal glasses. (so, far, I have yet to find any that the form doesn't fit over)
It can, of course, still be worn without glasses, but more dramatically alters the look of the wearer.
The shape of the eyeholes should also hide the fact that you are wearing glasses underneath but they may also cause some reduction in the wearers field of vision.
I have some more in-depth discussion of my methods and of mask history on my website: www.artmasks.ca
We have tried to do a “worst case” on the shipping prices, due to the variances in Canada Posts costs by location. We will refund any overcharges.
