This frilly patchwork ra-ra dress is made entirely from recycled fabrics from the thrift store and my fabric stash, chosen for the pretty pastel colours.
The bodice is pale blue and white checks, featuring antique style roses like a Victorian tile. There are too many fabrics to count in the skirt - 105 five inch squares were all sewn together in rows.
Three reclaimed doilies are sewn on to add interest.
I have added a bonus handmade button rosette, pinned on to the bodice. Please unpin this for washing, or if your little girl is not cool with safety pins.
At the hemline of the skirt is a mega ruffly pink ruffle. Perfect for dancing the cancan!
Each seam is finished on my industrial strength five thread overlocker, so there is no chance of any seams breaking or coming undone.
Most of the fabric is cotton, with some poly cotton vintage sheets.
Handmade by me in my smoke-free home in the country just outside of Canberra.
Size: designed for ages 6 to 8, the straps are adjustable so you can tie them where they fit best. Around the chest under the armpits is 64cm (25 inches).
Length - from the armpits to the bottom hem is 68cm (27 inches) depending on the height of your child it should be mid calf length.
Waist - roomy, comfy, free sized waist.
The model in the photos is aged seven and usually wears size 8, fits perfectly but not enough growing room, if you know what I mean.
I can make a different size for you, or if your little one hates pink, let me know and I can sew up a blue, green and purple one. The only limit is your imagination. So much fun to sew, so much fun to twirl!
