No one is free in this world, and that is beautiful. We are bound up in our joys, our passions, and our fears, and while we are capable of letting go these things, we do not wish to. Every degree of freedom we achieve we achieve only by cutting those threads. My work attempts to deal with freedom, but in so doing ties strongly in with the idea of that severing of fetters, and the connection between those ropes holding us to the world and to what holds us to life. As such, the pieces encompass a frolicking sort of solemnity- both the peace of weaving the strings that would hold us down into a life, as well as the rapture of sudden freedom and letting go the ends.
