This 1977 annual plate is one from a series of 24 wall plates designed by Raija Uosikkinen for Arabia of Finland to commemorate the Kalevala legend, the national epic of Finland.
Each plate depicts a part of the story which is written on the back in Finnish, Swedish and English. Marked with the Arabia Finland crown logo, the signature of Raija Uosikkinen, and the year. Plate reads:
"As she turned her footsteps homeward, pushing through the alder-bushes, came the aged vainamoinen, and he saw her in the thicket, finely clad among the herbage,"
Plate is in great vintage condition with no chips, cracks or damage. Plate measures 8" square.
