-About Furoshiki-
Furoshiki (風呂敷, fu-rosh-ki) is a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth. It can be used in multiple ways, for bundling or gift-wrapping all sorts of things. We think this particular lighter-weight furoshiki works well for more delicate wrapping and perfectly as a scarf, and it softens up the more you wear and wash it. One simple and beautiful piece of cloth and the list is endless. Tie it and see!
-Designers words-
I love finding little moments in life. Discovering and revealing often overlooked details. This is a way of looking that I think I picked up from my parents from a young age. This design is derived from ‘zooming’ into a section of knotted striped fabric. The resulting pattern, although very simple is surprisingly complex and I love that it has a three dimensional quality, depicted through the distortion of the lines and nothing else. It makes a powerful image when seen as a whole, but can be creased and folded into further abstraction when wrapped and tied.
Printed in red (Also available in red : http://www.etsy.com/listing/70089414/link-x-lucinda-newton-dunn-red) gives a bold boost of colour, printed in grey has a cooler more relaxed feel.
-Printing process-
Each of our products has been hand printed in Japan, using traditional printing techniques. We are working with a great printing company called Chiffonez in Tokyo, who specialize in the printing of furoshiki. To make sure we get the best results possible, we keep a close dialogue with the printers, retaining a good balance between our ideas and their invaluable knowledge.
