Every chapter heading has a black and white illustration. See photos 2 and 3 for examples. There are 24 illustrations in this style plus a small map of the ancient Mediterranean world.
This vintage book is is very good condition. It has so tears, blemishes, marks, or signs of wear. The binding is completely sound. I had to hold the book open with my hand just to photograph examples of the illustrations because it is still stiff. I don't know if it has every been read. Did someone in 1944 not do his or her homework?
The tops of pages are dyed red on the outside for an extra touch of class. See photo 5.
This lovely vintage hardcover of The Odyssey will make a splendid addition to any bibliophile's collection.
