in the strangest of places
has led to my finding something pretty great
(in a strange place).
This is a rare plate
because besides the blue underglaze,
it is hand-painted with red and gold accents
designating it as the "rich" version of the classic
Blue Onion pattern.
Made by the well known Meissen company
from hard paste porcelain.
Check out the other crossed sword mark
at the base of the tree on the front of the plate.
Let's talk about the back-stamp and marks:
The crossed sword mark
also has an incised number 21
and a hand-painted number 38 in blue
under the glaze.
The are slight losses in the red paint (see last picture)
no utensil marks
and no visible chips, cracks, crazing, etc.
The only concern I see is a possible repair at
the 9 o'clock position. I can't tell if it is a repair or
Replacements dot com doesn't even have this plate.
See how I love my customers?
It would be an absolute joy to get this plate into it's proper home.
