Adding to the appeal of this book are the illustrations by Dorothy Lathrop. Her illustrations were originally published in 1927, but this particular copy is a 1945 reissue. There is one color plate illustration, thirteen full-page black-and-white illustrations, and a large number of smaller partial-page illustrations. I'd characterize Lathrop's style as more art nouveau than art deco, but I can see a bit of both in her work. It is rich, detailed and yet very sweet.
The version of this book with Lathrop's illustrations is not especially common, and this copy is solid and clean! It is 7.75 x 9.75 and 265 pages long.
BOOK CONDITION
The blue cloth cover shows fading around the spine edges and the tips are bumped and worn. The cover illustration is a bit worn, but the especially attractive spine design is clean and distinct.
The interior has a small reddish blotch inside the front cover on the plain endpaper. There is no ownership inscription or other marks. The pages show a bit of age-related tanning. I detected no rips or tears and the binding is in very good condition. The book has a bit of an old paper smell, the way older books in a library smell, but it's not apparent unless you hold the book up to your nose.
