I used a variation of the Chevron chain technique to create the necklace, adding long magatama drop seed beads along the bottom edge for lots of texture and sparkle. The beads have a distinct leaf shape, and are carefully arranged to point outward on each side of the collar. I have finished the necklace with a handmade beaded button and loop clasp in matching green and brown.
Dimensions: The necklace is 1.8 cm (0.8 inches) wide, and 51 cm (20 inches) long, including the clasp. When the clasp is secured, the collar has an inside circumference of about 44.5 cm (17.5 inches). The beaded button measures 1.6 cm (0.6 inches) across.
The combination of earthy colors, organic shapes, and shimmery transparent glass gives this necklace a lot of personality. Though the design is simple and uncomplicated, the contrast of bright blue and green dewdrops at the edges of the deep brown make for an eye-catching accessory. The beadwork is very lightweight, and could be paired with a variety of necklines and colors.
Materials used in this necklace include high quality Japanese glass seed beads and magatams, and a Grade A fiber optic glass cat’s eye bead for the button base. I weave all of my jewelry with durable fused nylon thread, which provides lasting strength, and sturdy beadwork shapes. The beadwork is very strong, while the open netting design allows for a soft and even drape.
