I was able to use a laser-cutter to make a few of these lamps out of 1/8" birch plywood.
Approximate dimensions are 11"x10"x10"
Light is diffused through each of the 60 panels by white polycarbonate (moire pattern) "illusion film" (see: http://www.rplastics.com/opticfilm.html). Each illusion film triangle is painstakingly cut by hand and glued to each and every wood triangle with super glue. The wood pieces are joined with high-temperature hot glue. The wood is coated with a polyurethane stain for looks and durability.
It is very sturdy thanks to the unique geometric shape and construction - the lamp is able to support at least 10lbs of pressure on its side!
11W CFL bulb, socket, and cord set are included. Bulb may be changed by removing one unglued section at the top of the piece, which fits back together like a jigsaw puzzle. Incandescent bulbs are not recommended due to the materials and construction techniques (too much heat!).
