THIS IS AN ACTUAL WORKSHOP, NOT A VIRTUAL WORKSHOP!
A two-day workshop focused on giving each participant the basics to be able to print on fabric without the need of big and expensive equipment.
During the first day we will cover the most important things you need to know to be able to print on fabric (how to prepare the fabric, heat setting, etc). During part of the first day and during the second day we will experiment with a couple of screen-printing techniques that will allow you to start printing independently.
The screen-printing techniques covered in workshop are low-tech and low-cost and do not necessitate an exposure lamp, thus allowing you to get creative and come up with exciting variations to try, should you continue to print by yourself.
We will be printing with handmade paper and plastic stencils and we will use the screen-filler technique.
This workshop does not include multicolor printing.
I place a big focus on experimentation and creativity so don't be afraid in case you think you're not an artsy type.
**Is this for me?**
While this workshop has been conceived for absolute beginners, meaning you need no experience with fabric printing whatsoever, I think it would also be beneficial to those who maybe have some experience already but would like to freshen up their knowledge of the process or try alternative printing methods.
If you're an artist and you want to print your drawings on fabric (or paper) while keeping a very organic look to the result, this workshop is for you too!
When:
Sat 25th February 10 am to 5 pm
Sun 26th February 11 am to 4 pm
(Please note: slight changes in the schedule are possible)
Where:
The workshop will be held at the Etsy Labs Ritterstrasse 12-14
10969 Berlin
**Materials**
Fabrics of various types and sizes to print on are included, but feel free to bring your own fabric - a fabric bag you want to embellish, a pillow case or a t-shirt for example. You will be sent a full updated list of materials you need to bring with you, such as:
- A design you want to print. This can be something that you've drawn (I will give you directions as to the level of detail that is possible to achieve). I will also provide some ideas and give you access to resource books during the course.
- A pen and pencil
- A t-shirt that can get dirty (we will be working with non-toxic inks but printing can get messy sometimes)
- You can also bring paper to experiment printing on paper.
- All other materials are provided.
**You will also receive a script containing the information that has been covered during the course, so no need to take notes!**
Max 6 participants. Teaching language: English (but quick questions and conversations can also be held in German, French or Italian).
