Known for both his costume and set design, in 1953 the artist debuted the Sascha Brastoff Ceramics Factory in a modern A. Quincy Jones' designed building. The opening resembled a Hollywood premiere with attendees such as Zsa Zsa Gabor and Edward G. Robinson. Joan Crawfod was a high-profile collector, and was said to not let guests use his pieces, as she regarded them as works of art.
This is a signed Sascha Brastoff piece. A figural pipe, made as an ingenious matchbook holder, handpainted, brimming with mid century details. There are some minor signs of wear, yet in fantastic vintage condition. Measuring 5 1/4"h, an irrefutably amazing find for the Brastoff collector.
