This is the inked version of the final color piece commissioned by Dark Horse Comics for their 2011 holiday card. The color piece was not made from this inked drawing; they were both made from the same pencilled original.

Drawing dancers is one of the great pleasures of figurative art. There's so much you can't convey-- the interaction of the shapes of the body as the dancer moves, quick turns, slow swirls of fabric, the separate movements of costume ornaments-- but there's nothing like it for studying rhythm and balance and foreshortening. Everything has to be implied, captured mid-motion as in a candid photograph.
