This bracelet with its structured yet organic style had many challenges. The primary challenge was taking rigid components and creating the organic nature of coral. The sterling silver sheet is form into the cuff shape, then various sizes of sterling silver tubing is hand cut, sanded and individually soldered into place. Although the cuff starts out as a generic shape it true for comes out during the creation process, the metal directs the lay out of the design. After all the polishing and finishing work is done 11, 2.5mm and 20, 3.5mm blue topaz is set through out the piece.
This design actually came about as part of my college exit show, last year I decided to replicate my original bracelet adding a patina finish so the natural oxidation of sterling silver becomes part of the finished design.
From start to finish this bracelet takes about 36 hours to complete (a lot of time is spent chasing small pieces of tubing around the studio) Of all the pieces I have created this design is one of my favorites, with a love-hate relationship of creation
