"Chatoyancy is a property that is usually attributed to certain gems, the cats eye effect or shimmer which gives a senseof depth in the gem. This property can also be used to describe some of the more dramatic pieces of curly, tigerstripe and fiddleback Koa. This figuring gives the wood a three dimensional quality; and depending on from what angle one views the wood, it can take on several completely different characters."*
It is a uniquely Hawaiian wood, and is one of the most prized natural products from the islands.
You would usually see this wood on a much more expensive pen. However, I have the wood but not the patience to order new pen parts.
This pen features a unique touch: the cap is magnetic; it also posts on the back while you write. The fixtures of the pen are gun metal chrome. It is equipped with a German made Iridium fountain tip. It comes with a single, replaceable ink fill as well as a refillable converter.
My pens are finished with with 5 coats of cyanoacrylate (CA, aka superglue) and sanded 14 steps, all the way up to 12,000 grit (!) for a beautiful, lasting finish. Contrast this with most pens sold here on Etsy, which are finished with wax or a urethane finish. Both will produce a satisfying gloss, but will not last for very long.
