When I started playing roller derby I found out pretty fast that the sport is hard on skates. I wanted a guard that protected the toes as well as the laces of my skates. After some trial and error I came up with a design that withstood the abuse derby has on skates and looks good.
I use thick leather 7-8oz (about 1/8”) that is dyed black and double hand stitched with black waxed cord. The fingers are pressed into the leather and then painted, this ensures that the images will show through clearly no matter how much wear your guards take. I bevel and burnish the edges of the guards until the edges are round and smooth, then the leather is treated with a sealer. I reinforce the first two stitches with steel wire and use adhesive to bond the back of the stitching to the leather.
This set of guards are a female size, if you want the same design in a male size just convo me.
