Here is an example of one of the weekly inscriptions:
"Plants suck up the elements of the soil; sheep feed off the plants, and the wolf preys upon the sheep. The unicorn slays the wolf, the lion hunts the unicorn, and death in its turn destroys the lion. Is there a force mightier than death to forge this chain of cruelties with an enduring justice? Is there a power that will turn these hateful things to good ends? Is there a power that will gather up all life's elements in its hand and merge them smiling in itself as the ocean gathers back to its depths all the streams in song?
This diary is in very nice condition. No one has written on the pages of the diary. Every page is blank, unblemished, and nice as the day it was printed.
EXCEPTION: There is a handwritten message on the first page from the person who gave the diary to someone as a gift.
This diary has a ribbon bookmark.
PLEASE NOTE: The gold lettering and decor on the cover is actually printed on a heavy clear plastic book jacket. It was difficult to photograph but if you look closely at Photos 1 & 4 you can see the clear book jacket. This plastic part is a little dirty. The hardcover beneath the jacket is in perfect condition and embossed with a beautfiul design - See Photo 4.
This diary also features beautiful end papers. See Photo 3.
The pages of this diary are cream colored with very pale yellow designs and borders. You might be able to see it in Photo 2.
This diary was published by Alfred A. Knopf. It also contains some small black and white illustrations. No artist credit is given.
Book measures 8.5 x 6.5 inches.
