The extra large heart is a vibrant crimson wool with red and blue veins, plus the aorta up top. It's about 12" to 14" tall and 10" wide and is surprisingly dense.
I use a technique called needle felting to matte down dyed wool until it turns into felt, and eventually a soft but solid mass. The heart will be stylized, just like what you're seeing in the images - I try to represent the various parts as best I can while staying true to the fiber material.
Needle felting is a time-consuming and tedious craft but it's also addictive. The gigantic heart takes me about 10 hours to make (which is reflected in the price). If you need the heart by a specific date, please send me a convo first so we can see if it's possible to make your deadline.
I've been lucky enough to have my felted hearts featured on Etsy Finds (February of 2012) and on www.thisiswhyimbroke.com. My other felted work has appeared in Better Home and Garden's DIY magazine.
