I was lucky enough to get hold of some wonderful, vintage wooden letterpress blocks a wee while ago. They came to me from Dublin and had clearly been sitting, unloved, in a shed for years and years.
I set about cleaning them up a bit and what magical things emerged from under the dust and ink...I fell in love with these warm, tactile pieces of printing history. I set off on a hunt for more and this is the result...
There is still some ink and paint on the blocks, and they do have some dinks and scratches, but that is part of their history and charm. Now they can be part of your history and charm! Not only that, but they are eco-friendly too, as they are being rescued and re-purposed.
I think these words and letters look great sitting on a shelf, desk or mantelpiece. Each one is different and unique.
This set is "ME & YOU"...a perfect gift for a Wedding, Valentine or Anniversary!
"ME & YOU" is made up of individual blocks, all from the same, tall and stylish "Runic Grot" font - rather arts-and-crafts-y, I'd say - measuring (height x width) :-
"M" - 2 5/8" x 1 1/8"
"E" - 2 5/8" x 7/8"
"&" - 1" x 5/8"
"Y" - 2 5/8" x 7/8"
"O" - 2 5/8" x 3/4".
"U" - 2 5/8" x 7/8".
The total width is 5 3/8".
The last picture shows the back of the blocs - as you will see, some resourceful printer has had a go at carving a C on the back of the "O". The printing face of the "O" is not affected, and You cannot see this from the front, but I wanted you to know this.
