I was inspired by the Masai Mara to capture the idea of a nest, a big nest where life grows!
"The Masai Mara National Reserve is probably one of the most famous wildlife regions in the world and provides the most diverse game viewing within Kenya. Such a reputation is with good cause as the Masai Mara plays host to the world's largest mass land migration, with around 2 million animals making the long and arduous journey from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Around July-October the reserve is awash with wildebeest, zebra and the big cat predators that they attract." (http://www.tribes.co.uk/regions/parks_and_reserves/masai_mara)
I used a cheetah jade stone: its green color represents the grasslands that nourrishes the animals, the black spots on the stone reminds of the distinctive pattern and black color of the big cats, zebras, giraffes...
Shell beads around the stone represent also the bones of dead animals on the ground, a reminder of the circle of life in the reserve.
Finally the vivid colors: I used red, deep blue, orange, lustered brown and black to contrast with each other but also bring in recogniseable colors of the masai beaded jewelry.
Galvanized seed beads and gold silver lined beads bring a touch of sunshine!
