The glass head pendant is reversible, with each side decorated in a unique face design. Accents in bright orange, red, yellow and blue give the piece a charming vitality. I chose bead colors that would complement the pendant, and used a simple pattern of beads to create the chain. Large green buri nut beads alternate with brown and garnet glass rounds that are surrounded by loops of terracotta brown seed beads. Other seed beads in orange, turquoise green, yellow, and red add to the cheerful design. I have finished the necklace with a beaded button and loop clasp in matching colors.
Dimensions: The face pendant is approximately 32 mm (1.3 inches) long, including the looped bail at the top. The necklace chain is 49 cm (19.3 inches) long, including the clasp. The beaded button measures 1.6 cm (0.6 inches) across.
Although the glass face pendant is large, it has a small hollow through the center, making it very lightweight. The raised face motif features a red mouth, orange nose and large ears. An orange headband surrounds the forehead, and features a transparent blue 'stone'. The black and yellow eyes appear wide with wonder. The dyed buri nut beads and the handmade glass face are from Java, Indonesia.
The combination of natural beads and bright colors is softened by the simple design of the beaded chain. Materials used in this necklace include Japanese glass seed beads, and Czech pressed glass druks. I weave all of my jewelry with durable fused nylon thread, using multiple thread passes for lasting strength.
This one of a kind design comes wrapped in tissue, packed securely with clean, repurposed bubble wrap or foam sheet, and shipped in a durable Canada Post cushion mailer.
