The Bone Cleaning Process:
Maceration - Using bacterial action to clean bone
(This is the simplest method of cleaning bone.)
I remove any remaining tissue or hide from the bone. Then I immerse the bone in a container of water and leave the container in a warm location. I then periodically pour the greasy, smelly water out and replace with fresh water. When the water runs clear, the bacteria have run their course. I then soak the bone in hydrogen peroxide until it reaches the whiteness I prefer. This also sterilizes the bone.
When the bone is completely dry I then spray a couple coats of polyurethane. This helps stop the breakdown process of the bone and protects it.
NOTE: No animals were harmed or hunted in the process of obtaining the bone. I naturally find animal remains while on nature walks or out in the woods exploring. To my knowledge the animals have died naturally or by nature. I DO NOT obtain any illegal or protected animal species.
