The beautifully constructed dress is made for the slender figured gal, and fitted at the waist and bodice -- and comprised of a semi-sheer woven tartan plaid cotton in colors of chestnut brown, red, and black.
It has long dolman style sleeves with angled cuffs that have ruffled trim, a high neck with ruffled neckline, well fitted button-down bodice with black cord crochet buttons, and full softly pleated tea-length skirt with ruffle trim along the hips.
There is an old repair at the right side seam, where someone had lovingly restitched it closed (see last pic). Can be redone or left as is, either way, it’s a hidden seam and doesn’t detract.
This dress was deaccessioned from the Brooklyn Museum’s Costume Collection, and has a single embroidered label for “Claire McCardell by Townley”, “A Gayley & Lord Fabric”.
Very good condition – vibrant and intact.
