The manatee looks like she is upright in the water and looking slightly to the side. She is made of a light grey opaque glass that has some swirls of darker grey. The manatee has a rounded paddle tail at the bottom, then her body with the two flippers, and her head. I tried to give the feel of the wrinkles in the body with some of the solder lines. The face is painted on with black acrylic glass paint.
The manatee is 5 inches(12 cm) long and 2 inches (4.5 cm) wide. It hangs from a hook placed at the top of the head (as shown in the last photo of the back of the piece).
Manatees are fun animals-huge, slow moving, gentle, plant eaters that are found in warm southern US ocean water. They are also a big favorite of my daughter-and after hearing about them for so long from her, I was inspired to make one out of glass.
All my glass pieces are original designs. They are made using the Tiffany method of copper foil and solder, along with my own imaginings.
