Marimo otherwise known as Japanese Moss Balls are native to Lake Akan in Japan. It is considered a national treasure and declared as a natural monument. Marimo are gorgeous, green algae balls that look like velvet, with 'Mari' being the Japanese word for ball and 'mo' refers to algae.

The legend of Marimos power began with forbidden love. The daughter of a chief fell in love with a commoner. Their relationship met with opposition but they refused to be separated and ran away together suffering extraordinary difficulties but drawing resolve from their love.
Legend has it that the spirits of the lovers metamorphosized into Marimo and lived together happily ever after at the bottom of Lake Akan in Japan. Marimo has become a symbol of love and triumph over adversity. It is believed that Marimo can bring love, luck and happiness to those that nourish it with love and patience.
