This piece, featuring a sterling horse and tassel, converts into two necklaces, trotter alone...or simply fringe. Unfasten the spring clips attached to the two rings midway along the chain, and the tassel part comes off. You can leave the extension piece of chain clipped to the nape to dangle down your back or take it off. Then when you want to just wear the tassel part or maybe combine it with other necklaces, clip its spring clasps to the extension.

From the clasp at the nape of the neck to the end of the tassel measures 11.5 inches (29.2 cm). Taken apart, the chain holding the horse measures 7.5 inches (19.1 cm), with the horse adding another 1.25 inches (3.2 cm). And the chain holding the tassel is 8.5 inches (21.6 cm), plus the tassel adding 1.75 inches (4.4 cm)..

Words

Axes
After whose stroke the wood rings
And the echoes!
Echoes traveling
Off from the center like horses.

The sap
Wells like tears, like the
Water striving
To re-establish its mirror
Over the rock

That drops and turns,
A white skull,
Eaten by weedy greens.
Years later I
Encounter them on the road--

Words dry and riderless,
The indefatigable hoof-taps.
While
From the bottom of a pool, fixed stars
Govern a life.

--Sylvia Plath, 1 February 1963
