Drawings of flowers fill margins of notebooks…
They flow from my pen onto paper and change as they grow across the pages.
The drawings find their way into my clay studio where they are happiest carved into clay. This carved clay then becomes hardened by fire then fresh porcelain is laid onto it, picking up those drawings and reflecting them as a mirror image of what the drawing had been.
In time colors emerge in powdered form of glass on the surface of the porcelain which is to be melted down in a fire that reaches over 2200 degrees F into liquid puddles of glass that encase the flower on all sides in beautiful, rich colors.
This particular pendant has undergone additional steps to etch the glossy surface away to reveal a rich satin matte underneath tones.
These glass covered porcelain hibiscus flowers want to be made into jewelry or treasured in some way by you. The piece you receive should vary slightly from the photo above due to the nature of the way the glaze flows over the piece as it is fired in my kiln to over 2232 degrees F.
The cost for making this piece, which measures 1-1/2" in diameter, wearable as in the last photograph (wire wrapped bail and on silky or fairy ribbon):
$5 for necklace in a non tarnishing base metal wire.
$10 for Sterling Silver (please let me know if you want the silver "bright" or "antiqued").
