This interesting painting of an active harbor scene was painted on masonite panel during the 1930s or 1940s when masonite was first mass produced and commonly used for painting. The colors and layout are amazing. The artist managed to skillfully get eleven people, the harbor with boat in the background, buildings and a wheelbarrow to all work perfectly together in the space. It is painted in a very loose, almost primitive style with black lines to highlight the figures. The painting is signed in the lower left hand corner by the artist. Illegible to us but could be Gilbert or Siebert, or something similar. Just needs a frame and then ready to display and enjoy!
Size: 20” (w) x 15.75” (h)
Condition: There is vintage wear on the painting, some light scratches and a couple small rough spots but nothing that detracts from the painting. Edges are also a little rough but will not be noticed when framed.
