This is a vintage baby doll in a basket sewing pattern. It has been careful removed from a vintage book.
"Here is a toy guaranteed to delight any little girl. The baby doll, made from felt, has a complete layette of clothes for day and night wear. All the items fit neatly inside a bread basket lined with fabric, measuring 22cm (8 3/4in) in diameter and 9cm (3 1/2in) deep. The lid is made from card (thin cardboard) to fit on top of the basket and it is covered with matching fabric. The doll, made by the stitch-around method (see below), measures 19cm (7 1/2in). The vest (or underskirt) and nappy (or diaper) are sewn in place on the doll, but all other garments are removable."
"The pattern piece is traced off the page and cut out, then it is pinned onto two layers of fabric. The toy is then stitched all around through both layers of fabric close to the edge of the paper pattern, leaving a gapin the seam for turning. After removing the pattern, the toy is cut out close to the stitching line then turned right side out. This methods makes the accurate seaming together of very small pattern pieces an easy matter."
