Small 30cm long, 22cm wide, paper and fabric assemblage dress.
A small three dimensional dress inspired by the novel - Emma by Jane Austen. The dress is Empire line, stitched together from old book pages (from a book of the novel) and a plae lilac fabric which has been ruched and gathered. Attached to the dress are beads and and lilac coloured fabric buttons.
Covering the dress is an empire line styled coat intricately tailored from a beige shimmery fabric. The coat has a clasp at the chest made from parts of an old necklace and also has two long ties. Edging the cuffs and the hem of the coat is a beige lace.
Emma, by Jane Austen, is a novel about the perils of misconstrued romance.
Although convinced that she herself will never marry anyone, Emma Woodhouse, a precocious almost twenty-one-year-old resident of the village of Highbury and, imagines herself to be naturally gifted in conjuring love matches.
