This piece of plaster typography has been cast using white Gedeo Resin Plaster in a mould made from my own hand-carved original plaster ampersand. The mould picks up the beautiful texture of the carved plaster, even the little bubbles and irregularities I found as I was carving. Each ampersand is hand finished to remove any oddities, and sanded flat on the back.
If you'd like to know more about how they're made, please feel free to visit my blog at www.kuberblog.blogspot.com, as I'm often posting about production discoveries and new things I've made.
This ampersand stands up by itself. Unlike any of my previous plaster typography, this one has been made to a thickness which means it will be self-supporting. It's balanced really nicely too - even though the base is curved, it doesn't roll off to one side and look uneven! It measures about 13cm (5in) wide, 11cm (4.25in) high, and has a depth of 1.8cm (0.75in). It weighs just under 350 grams (0.75 pounds) - so it's a nice weighty object.
For the typographically-curious, this ampersand is based on the one found in the font OPTIBeaver - I did change the interior shape slightly in order to be able to carve it well.
Gedeo Resin Plaster is a very hard, dense plaster designed for superfine white casting. It's certainly not a lightweight material like regular Plaster of Paris! This ampersand is pretty sturdy, but is likely to break if you drop it.
I ship my work all over the world. If your exact location isn't listed below and shipping should be cheaper than the 'Everywhere Else' cost, let me know and I'll edit the listing to suit.
