(2) large,10x26mm Sherpa coral, rustic, worn, glass beads with center drilled, 4mm holes. Although both are coral orange, one is a warmer orange while the other is a lighter, delicate salmon color. Please see dime in last photo for visual sizing.
Some history about Sherpa coral beads:
Authentic, old, Sherpa coral beads were highly sought after by Himalayan and Tibetan people as a substitute for the traditional use of real, red coral which was very rare. Authentic Sherpa coral beads were made a century ago by European glass makers in either barrel or "wheel" shapes (like mine) and have a worn, pitted patina.
I never want to mislead you. Authentic Sherpa Coral beads, much like authentic dZi beads are hard to come by and can be worth a lot of money.
I believe that my beads were recently made, possibly in Czechoslovakia ( or even more recently in India?), of wound or molded red glass, and made their way to the Tibet region for use as a coral substitute and also for sale as pseudo antique beads. Don't be fooled - you will never find an authentic Sherpa Coral bead within the low price range that I sell them here. Yet, they are beautiful in their own right and well worth the price that I have them listed for.
