This is a mid to late 1800s pair of Lemaire FAB T Paris Opera Glasses trimmed in Black Leather and Brass. The lenses are clear and clean. The mechanicals work smoothly. The black leather barrels are double seamed, inside and outside, which dates this pair to the latter half of the 1800s. There is a small horizonal one inch long crack in the leather on the right barrel extending about 1 inch from the inside seam (see Photo #3). The black enameled frames are in excellent condition with little to no signs of wear. The double rows of brass beading on each barrel are in perfect condition. On the underside of the middle frame is stamped the number "63" on one side and the stamp of the Lemaire "bee" on the other. Because of the small crack in the leather, this pair is rated in Very Good to Excellent Condition. A black and gold lined tapestry pouch is included with this beautiful piece. The glasses measure 4 inches across by 3 1/2 inches high extended and 2 1/2 inches high retracted. Maximum barrel diameter is 1 5/8 inches.
This handsome pair of Lemaire FAB T Opera Glasses would make a stunning addition to someone's collection of 1800s French opticals; or add that extra touch of elegance to a night out at the opera.
