pillows measure: 19.5" x 8" // 51cm x 20cm
each pillow weighs: 1.03 lbs / 490 g
The Chichicastenango huipils are made up of three panels. The middle panel has a headhole and the outer two panels are sewn up the sides except for a section at the top, left open to serve as arm holes. I separate the panels via a seamripper; preserving the panels by not cutting into them. These pillows are fashioned from the uncut side panels. Each panel is woven by hand on a backstrap loom using the brocade technique weaving in the design as they go. The material is thick, heavy and ultra strong.
*Pillows come stuffed with high-quality shredded textile scraps lending a very nice weight to the pillow making it very comfortable and versatile. They hold shape nicely making them great for actual pillow use. They are durable and tough and can be used by everyone, just about anywhere. While they are really pretty they are also very utilitarian.
