A wax seal necklace... two hearts, two skeleton keys and a skull, oh my! This is one of the most remarkable little desk seals I have ever found... it reads like a mysterious puzzle! I'd love to travel back in time, to the eighteenth century to learn more about this seal and it's owners! Truly one of a kind!

At the top are the letters ISZ 3 MES which I have tried translating, unsuccessfully, so I presume they are the couples initials.
Under the initials are two hearts chained together but separate, out of which a plant seems to be growing from each. Next to each heart is a little padlock.
Under the padlock, a skull and under the skull are two crossed skeleton keys.
On either side of the intersected skeleton keys is a bird holding something in its beak.

In heraldry, the hearts symbolize charity and sincerity and the chains signify servitude and captivity, and sometimes temperance and chastity, which bridle unruly passions... yikes! But often, when we see two hearts chained together, but apart it’s accompanied with the words “separated but not disunited.”
I’m still trying to determine the plants growing from their hearts so that I can understand their symbolism.
The skull is a symbol of mortality... it's a reminder to live life while you can.
The keys, or clef, symbolize guardianship and dominion. Keys denote liberation, knowledge, mystery, and initiation.
The lock, or padlock symbolizes guardianship and dominion, security and protection.
Birds are often used in heraldry, and each breed has it’s own unique symbolism. Since there are two little birds, they might be love birds, but I’m not sure what they carry in their beaks.

I'm trying to put together the pieces of this symbolic puzzle, to learn the story of this wax seal. I'm not a sigillographer, one schooled in the science and study of seals or signet rings, but based on what I do know about the symbols on this seal and the fact that there are 2 of each symbol, I believe this seal is a wedding vow, "till death do us part"

This incredible “story” charm is hand stamped, in fine silver, from a small antique bronze seal which dates back to the 18th century.
The fine silver necklace charm measures approximately 5/8” by 3/4” and has been oxidized to highlight the details. It’s threaded onto a delicate 16” sterling silver chain with a spring ring clasp.

Inspired by history... old world charm made wearable!
