An absolutely stunning strapless 1950’s party/prom dress in an enchanting confection of shell pink layered tulle and taffeta. The soft shade of pink is ethereal and very romantic. This dress was likely originally designed as a wedding or prom gown and is certainly lovely enough to be worn at a very special occasion. Maker’s label reads “Cotillon Formals”, which produced high end bridal and formal wear during the 1950’s & 60’s. No fabric contents label but this is likely a synthetic blend.
Note the details on this stunning dress – the strapless wrapped tulle (boned) bodice, the ruched taffeta cummerbund waistband to accentuate a narrow waist, the scattered metallic pink sequins, the incredibly full layered tulle skirt and especially the magnificent taffeta rear bow. There are three layers to this skirt – an underlayer of pale pink satin acetate, a single middle layer of pink fine mesh tulle to give the skirt additional volume, topped with an outer layer of the pink layered tulle.
This dress closes down the side with a hidden metal zipper and fastener. The entire dress is lined in matching pale pink satin acetate. The dress is photographed using a crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included.
No vintage size label, so please see measurements below for a proper fit. This is a small size that would likely best fit a modern size 0 or 2.
Bust – 33-34”
Waist – 23-24”
Hips – full
Length – 45.5”
Torso length – 10.5” (strapless)
Skirt length (waist to hem) - 35”
This dress is in excellent vintage condition. No stains and underarms are clean. No tears in the outer tulle. There are a few minor mentions – a few repairs to the tulle skirt. These repairs were professionally done using transparent filament thread and resemble jagged seams. In my view they are relatively inconspicuous, but mentioned for accuracy. There are also a few tears on the inner tulle layer, which are not visible from the exterior.
