This ruffle scarf is a fun and simple project that is great for all levels of crocheters. Although the design looks complicated, it is easy to make using only single and double crochet stitches! The crochet technique used to make this project is called “hyperbolic crochet” (that’s the fancy math name – but you don’t need to be a math whiz to do it! Believe me!).
For this project you will need a size G/6 crochet hook and 500 grams (about 18 ounces) of cotton yarn. The yarn pictured is called 2nd Time Around cotton and it’s made from wasted cotton from the garment industry. If you can’t find this particular yarn in your area I highly recommend Pakucho Organic Cotton (by Peru Naturtex Partners), Manos del Uruguay Cotton Stria, or Blue Sky Alapacas Organic Cotton as great eco-friendly alternatives. You can also substitute any of your favorite worsted weight yarns and the pattern will work just fine!
Once you have learned the technique, you can easily make your own adaptations by varying the length and weight of yarn – the possibilities are endless!
