The inspiration for this pillow came from a summer class at the art studio where I work. The kids were asked to paint their favorite animal on a piece of canvas. Then the animal was cut out and sewn directly onto a colorful piece of batik to create a pillow. The uninhibited and colorful creations were dynamic and adorable. It was my goal to capture this unrestrained approach while keeping a slightly representational look. The result of the process was quirky, fun, and liberating.
This pillow is made of soft canvas and colorful batik fabric, and is huggably soft. He is hand painted in a loose and lively method with acrylic paint to depict broad seamless feathers. A quick flip of the pillow shows the bright saturated hues of the batik, ranging from burnt orange to olive green.
Sleep tight, and don't let the Barn owls bite.
