This one of a kind, wearable work of art is known as a Kafka Clock. It's creation was influenced by biomechanics, and the novella "Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka in which the hero (or rather anti-hero) gradually turns into an insect with the idle ticking away of time. It is also inspired by the aesthetics of the modern movement known as Steampunk; a sub-culture based on Victorian Invention, such as the steam powered engine and other mechanical devices that go whirr, whiz, and POP!
This unique piece features an antique pocket watch movement (c.1880s) with ornate segemented details. It is enhanced with the addition of a jewel-like Weevil specimen exactly how it was found in nature. This combination illustrates the beauty of human invention as well as the splendors of Nature's own handiwork.
It can be worn as a (non-functional) pocket watch or pendant, or can be hung on a wall as an interesting shadowbox or shrine.
This Kafka Clock comes with an antiqued gold plated chain that measures 16 inches long. The pocket watch case is all original and hails from the 1920s. The case is rolled gold, though most of the plating has worn away with time and use creating a lovely antiqued effect. It measures 1.75 inches.
This necklace *is* encased in resin. This is the only piece in my shop where I have utilized this method.

All the insects I use are farmed throughout the world as an ethical alternative to slash and burn agriculture.
