You can see through the silk to my mannequin's black torso - that's how light and airy the lower part of this gorgeous piece is. The upper is a finely wet and needle felted garden of soft joyful colors! The edges of the silk are raw and unfinished. - Oh, and if you think it's too long I can shorten it easily, or you can too! There are 6 separate silk panels. They join at the top - but are left to flow freely apart lengthwise.
Look closely and you'll see I've hand sewn glass beads where the top joins the silk in front. Think of each bead as a wish granted - and wishes are a renewable resource in fairy world!
It measures 50" long x 20" (that you can adjust by retying the ties) wide - excluding straps and side ties. This will easily fit a size 4 - 14 comfortably well because YOU ADJUST the fit with the forgiving felted ties.

Matches THIS HAT perfectly! http://www.etsy.com/listing/93212796/palomino-pony-felted-happy-hat-in-peach?ref=v1_other_2
There is magic in nuno felting! This piece proves it to me. A combination of lighter than air silk with super soft merino wool fibers forms a luscious layer for those times your mood or your outfit needs a boost.
Comes sleeved with cute washing instructions. Perfectly durable and colorfast!
The Idea:
The elegance of the materials juxtaposed with the upbeat whimsy of the decoration combines into a one of a kind expression that elevates the mood of the wearer and the beholders alike.
My Process:
To form the main body of the piece fibers are coaxed to form a soft drapey and exceptionally sturdy community by pushing and kneading them together. Sometimes with water sometimes without and always by hand. Colorful details are then layered on one at a time using a combination of specialized needles and more mooshing and coaxing.
My Fibers
Some of the alpaca I use comes from a dear friend who raises champion stock alpacas (judged mainly for their super soft fiber) right here in Kentucky. The other fibers, fine merino wool, angora, cashmere and fun metallics come from across the US and abroad (wool from English sheep, roving from Israeli cria) from other Etsy sellers (don't we all just LOVE Etsy!?).
The Dyes
Eco friendly acid dyes (the acid is salad vinegar) are hand painted onto raw fibers and then heat set by steaming on my stove. Oh my gosh - the color is amazing!!
How Soft?
Imagine the tummy of a kitten - the fluff on a chick - the noggin of a puppy.....that's how soft!
My Gratitude:
Every day I get to go into my studio and work on these pieces is a day I love and look forward to. Your buying one helps me continue having marvelous days and I think the happy energy I experience gets transferred right into each finished piece! I am so grateful to be able to do this, and I thank you sincerely for enjoying what I make and maybe even selecting something from me for your own collection. Thank you!
