Wooden spoons have been a fixture in kitchens for thousands of years for good reason. They are durable, easy to clean and don't impart any flavor to the food. In addition they don't scratch modern stick-proof finishes.
My spoons are hand carved in the Swedish tradition of using only hand tools, axes, hand-saws and knives. I minimize the use of abrasives on my spoons (except in cases where the technique demands it, such as kolrosing and on lovespoons).
Eating your meal with a wooden spoon is a long-forgotten pleasure. Unlike metal spoons a wooden spoon will never get hot enough to burn your mouth no matter how long you leave it in the soup. Not only are they good with hot foods, try eating ice cream with one. You'll never want to go back to metal. Wooden spoons add a new dimension to dining pleasure.
This spoon is perfect for either decorative purposes or as a spoon at the dinner table. The feel of the wood in your hand adds a new element of comfort to your life.
The design is an example of kolrosing, a Scandinavian technique where a design is engraved into the wood with the point of a knife, then filled will a contrasting substance such as coffee, cinnamon or, in this case, sealing wax. Using wax inlay on a kolrosed design is my own innovation. The sealing wax has a high melting point so washing the spoon in hot water will not melt the wax.
Wooden spoons should washed by hand and not put into the dishwasher. The heat of the drying cycle will desiccate the spoon and could cause the wood to crack. If you wish to renew the finish on this spoon use any food-safe oil such as mineral oil or butcher's block oil. You can use vegetable oils, but they can turn rancid.
This spoon will be provided with a display stand at no additional cost.
