One of my exclusive "Secret Sigil" range of unique pendants. The Ogham symbol corresponding to the tree which furnished the wood for each pendant is burned into the wood at the back, in the same way that Ogham was marked along the edge of stones so there is no centre line, which makes them less obvious than when the symbols are marked in the usual way... hence the name "Secret Sigil". At a recent Witchcraft Fair I attended these proved by far the most popular items on my stall, and I can't make as many as I'd like because I only choose the most beautiful pieces of wood for them, although I'm hoping to make them a regular feature of my Etsy shop.
This particular pendant is made from a little plank cut from the branch of an Ash tree. It's quite chunky and showcases beautifully the fabulous colours and grain patterns in the wood. The silky smoothness of the surface just begs to be touched and I defy anyone to be able to wear one of these pendants without constantly stroking it. Wear for protection whilst travelling, especially when passing over water, or simply to calm your mind and banish strife.
These "Secret Sigil" pendants are popular with anyone who prefers to be a little more discreet about their beliefs and doesn’t always want to wear anything too overtly pagan. On the most simple level they're a lovely way to carry a piece of nature with you throughout your day, and if you choose the wood type for the magical qualities you require and wear it with intent, then a pendant like this one will surround you in a bubble of sacred space and envelop you in its subtle influence. The Celtic Ogham symbols marked on the back can be a constant reminder of your Celtic heritage and help you to invoke the powers of the tree spirit. If you don’t want to wear it then you can carry it in your pocket or just hang it somewhere in your home or car, and they also look great in bunches. It would make a perfect gift for anyone born in the right month according to the Celtic tree calendar, but as they used a lunar calendar I’ll leave you to work out when that would be as it varies slightly from year to year!
Made from wood which has been organically grown and ethically gathered, it has been finished with a light coat of oil and will come strung on a waxed cotton cord, so it contains no animal products or metal parts.
Best known for being Yggdrasil the World Tree in the Northern Tradition, Ash has a powerful affinity with the powers residing in water. It is good for magic to do with healing and karma, and is said to provide protection from drowning. It can be used in spells that require focus and strength and it is said to banish mental strife. It is said that an Ash staff hung above the door will ensure protection of the home.
Size: About two inches long, seven eighths of an inch wide and a quarter of an inch thick.
50mm x 23mm x 6mm.
