These are sturdy handmade Steampunk cufflinks made from brass genuine antique uniform buttons - a slice of history to wear. This pair is from the St. Louis – San Francisco Railway, founded in Missouri in 1876 and was reincorporated every three decades or so, as the spreading network of railway grew in fits and starts from coast to coast. Though Frisco tracks never made it west of Texas, the line was named for it's original West coast destination. These buttons are made by the Waterbury Button Company in Connecticut. The company has been making buttons since 1812, crafting high quality brass buttons As they say in their company history "When Gen. Ulysses S. Grant met Gen. Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Courthouse, both men wore Waterbury buttons on their chests." These buttons are heirloom collector quality - a unique and memorable keepsake.
These are sturdy SOLDERED cufflinks - NOT glued like most of the others cufflnks you will see - I use a two step silver soldering method to preserve the quality and integrity of the piece without frying it by applying direct flame like the torch soldering, so there is less burnt metal for a cleaner solder. Made to last.
The buttons measure 15/16" (just under 1 inch) - see photos for details! The fourth photo shows an example of the uniform buttons in context with a railroad date nail and a pair of Wabash Line Buttons- the larger buttons are from blazers, and the smaller are from vests.
A great gift for your father, brother, husband, sweetie or train loving friend!
