Artist Statement
Bling! is a series of clothing and accessories, featuring candy- coloured screen printed gems stuffed with wool, that playfully explores the issues of consumption as a cultural obsession for acquisitions of status and luxury.
The clusters of fabricated gems, are a tongue-in-cheek statement on socially constructed and often misplaced values of worth heightened by an all consuming desire for objects of status, wealth and image.
This series was initially launched in 2009, as a solo exhibition at The Print Studio in Hamilton, Canada, and has been continuously exhibited in various galleries throughout Southern Ontario.
