I recommend a piece of glass placed on my tables (especially dark colored tables) to keep the gloss finish like new. The darker colors tend to make things like fingerprints and water spots very obvious. The 1/4 inch of glass gives a little more distance for reflected light to travel from the steel substrate to the surface making these things less obvious. And like any finish the gloss can wear with time, and the glass will protect your investment.
